All That Dutch bundles views on international art policy

July 2005 -

On 20 June 2005, Atzo Nicolaï, junior minister of Foreign Affairs, accepted the first copy of All That Dutch, a book on international culture policy. The publication was edited by the Stichting Internationale Culturele Activiteiten (SICA), the Mondriaan Stichting, the Nederlandse Literair Productie- en Vertalingenfonds and the Fonds Amateurkunst en Podiumkunsten.

All That Dutch bundles the views of art professionals, scientists and policy makers on our international culture policy. The book includes contributions from Aaron Betsky, Valentijn Byvanck, Chris Dercon, Boris Dittrich, Bas Heijne, Maria Hlavajova, Johan Simons, Joeri van den Steenhoven, and many others. An image essay of Japanese designer Masuhiro Sato is also included in the book, which is published in Dutch and in English.

The self-evidence of international culture policy has recently become a topic of debate. Within the framework of the government's memorandum on culture, Cultuurnota 2005-2008, the subject is now also on the political agenda and questions are being asked about the policy's content and organization. Should the policy be more ambitious, more result oriented? Should political, economic or social considerations be included, or is culture an independent pillar of international policy? The editors asked the contributing authors to explain their views from the themes Culture and politics, Culture and economy, International reflection, and Cultural profiling.
