Art in the Wake of the World Cup

June 2010 -

Countless, loosely associated cultural surprises have been drawn into South Africa in the wake of the World Cup Soccer 2010. One of these is the pan-African SPace exhibition, with works from more than twenty-five artists displayed on three floors of the Museum Africa in Newtown, Johannesburg.

August 2009 -

Until 2003, works made by Zimbabwean artist Kudzamai 'Kudzi' Chiurai (Harare, 1981) were a-political. Now things have changed.


African opera on the rise

May 2006 -

The combination of Africa and opera is less alien that it would appear. The main ingredients - oration, song, dance, music and drama - form the core of African culture. The striking aspect is that it has taken so long for African opera to come into being.
