ArtThrob is an on-line magazine from South Africa about contemporary visual arts. The website covers both the national art world and South African artists on the international podium.
A new edition appears each month, with news about artists and expositions, reviews, items, discussions and photos.

ArtThrob offers lively biographies and many images of works of art. But also: Who is buying what and why? In ‘Gallery Choice' a curator or art collector explains why a specific art work was purchased. The Websites area contains an extensive collection of links to art websites throughout the entire world along with descriptions.

The site was created in August 1997 and since that time has amassed an impressive archive of items and photos. Paging through previous editions can be a bit confusing, because once there you cannot click back to more recent items. However, that does not detract from the fact that ArtThrob is an interesting, readable art magazine that far surpasses many of its paper competitors.
