Summary of the conference
A commitment to pluralism
The
need for pluralism was the final conference topic. Whether you call it
pluralism, multiculturalism or interculturalism, the important thing is
what you make of it, Dragan Klaic argued.
Allister
Sparks showed that in South Africa people had no choice but to make something
of it. The different parties had to find a way of living together in the
future with more respect for each other. The therapeutic process of negotiation
could help bring this about.
The
concluding speaker was Josette Feral. She argued that art has always been
a model for interculturalism and will continue to be so, as long as it
remains outside the domain of politics.
